Please follow these simple Campground Rules

To help keep North of Highland safe and enjoyable for all of our camping guests…

FIRE SAFETY RULES:

Because our campground is nestled in a natural setting with pine trees and pine needles throughout it is especially important for all campers to carefully follow all of our campground rules related to fires.

  • NO OPEN FIRES within the campground.

  • NO BURNING of WOOD or PINE NEEDLES.

  • CHARCOAL FIRES, CAMP STOVES, LANTERNS, CAMP HEATERS, LIQUID TIKI TORCHES, and CANDLES are permitted but an ADULT must BE PRESENT AT ALL TIMES until they are fully extinguished.  You cannot leave the campsite until they are properly extinguished.

  • LANTERNS are allowed on the ground or on the picnic table, but CANNOT BE HUNG IN TREES or near tents, tarps or ropes.

  • TIKI TORCHES – Only LIQUID torches with a wick are allowed, NOT torches which burn down dropping ashes.

  • CHARCOAL FIRES:

    • Charcoal Fires are for COOKING only, we do NOT allow fire pits.

    • Charcoal must be placed in a SOLID BOTTOM GRILL with sturdy legs that lift the grill at least 6 inches off the ground.

    • The grill must be located on the GROUND in an area that has been CLEARED OF ALL PINE NEEDLES and FLAMMABLE MATERIAL (never placed directly on picnic table tops as they can burn the table)

    • Charcoal can only be started with lighter fluid, NOT with TWIGS, PINE NEEDLES, PAPER or WOOD (as these items can cause sparks or cause smoke which can be misidentified as a ground fire)

    • Charcoal fire should be EXTINGUISHED FULLY by drowning with WATER while still in the grill until it is COLD to the touch, then it should be placed in a trash bag and be disposed of in the TRASH DUMPSTER.  Never dump charcoal on the ground or bury it.

  • BEACH FIRES are allowed on the beach only (in the evenings) with a beach fire permit from either the Town of Truro or The Cape Cod National Seashore Park. A limited number of such beach fire permits are granted in advance depending upon the beach. Check online for current steps to reserve your beach fire permit as the reservation procedures for Truro and the National Park can change throughout the season.

KEEPING OUR CAMPGROUND NATURAL:

Our natural wooded setting is what helps make North of Highland such a special place.  Help us to protect the trees and natural landscape by following these campground rules.

  • NO ENLARGING of CAMPSITES

    • CAMPING GEAR must be LOCATED in the CENTER CLEARING of the CAMPSITE (please ask at the camp office if you are not sure where to place your equipment)

    • PARKING: No more than one or TWO VEHICLES are allowed at your site, and only if they can be properly parked in the driveway.  Extra vehicles may be parked in the main parking lots near the recreation building or office.

  • LEAVE NO TRACE
    • PICNIC TABLES must be kept in their ORIGINAL SITE.

    • REFILL any trenches: Only minor trenching along outside of site clearing is allowed, do not disturb tree roots, avoid trenching within the main tent clearing or driveways or roadways.

    • CHECK AROUND CAMPSITE PRIOR TO DEPARTURE: Collect all your gear and any trash or debris.

KEEPING OUR CAMPGROUND CLEAN:

We work hard to keep our entire campground clean and tidy from our roads, parking areas and pathways, to our restrooms, showers, laundromat, store and recreation facilities.  We ask for your help in keeping the campground looking great.  Please follow these campground rues:

  • WASH DISHES or FOOD at your CAMPSITE ONLY.  Please do NOT wash dishes, clothes or food at bathroom sinks or in water spigots so these areas remain clean.

  • NO LITTERING including cigarette butts.

  • TRASH should be disposed of in BAGS (available at office if needed) then placed into DUMPSTERS located near the restrooms in each area daily (this helps keep birds and small animals from spreading it about).

  • RECYCLE: We have a centralized recycling receptacle in Area 1 near the recreation building parking lot.  Please save and sort your recyclable items.
